Intolerance: Sentences that you can no longer hear

We all know supposedly well-intentioned comments at the dining table – especially people with intolerances. Rolling one's eyes is absolutely permitted with these sayings.

1. "Try it. That little bit doesn't matter"

Everything is harmless, except maybe that nut allergy sufferers can die from "a little bit of peanut butter". This does not apply to everyone – but stomach pain and nausea should not be underestimated either.

2. "No wheat !? You don't have to lose weight"

Note: Eliminating gluten does not always have something to do with a low-carb diet.

3. "Tzz. There was no such thing in the past"

Yes, people used to have it good. There weren't that many finished products with endless descriptions of the contents of chemical additives such as colorants, flavor enhancers, emulsifiers, stabilizers and whatever the name of the tongue twisters.

4. "What can you still eat then?

Most people hear this question. In doing so, you are often looked at with plaintive, big Bambi eyes until you enumerate the whole variety of foods that you can easily eat.

5. "It's all just in the head!"

It is true that stress and psychological distress can affect some intolerances. Nonetheless, you don't imagine your intolerance to yourself – stomach ache, nausea and excruciating toilets prove it.

6. "Nowadays everyone has some kind of intolerance"

Sure, you kind of hear it a lot. There is only one small but subtle difference: There are people who simply cannot take some things. But there are people who think that they are doing something good for themselves, for example by avoiding gluten and dairy products. And intolerance is already being branded as a fashion illness that suddenly everyone has.

7. "Sooo delicious. It's a shame you can't eat that"

This sentence is particularly nasty and can trigger extra violent eye rolls. In contrast to dieting, one does not make a conscious decision to do so. You simply have no choice but to do without certain things.

8. "Lactose intolerance? Well on the other hand there are tablets"

That's right. But: The enzymes available in capsule or tablet form do not relieve the symptoms of all those affected. It would be nice!

9. "Well, we definitely can't go to the restaurant with you, there is certainly nothing you can take!"

It's good that others are always better informed in these cases than the person affected.

10. "What will happen again if you eat this now?"

If you describe this in great detail and in great detail while eating, then enjoy your meal.
