Credit Suisse has launched an investigation against its chairman António Horta-Osório because he apparently evaded corona rules during a trip last July. This is reported by the Zurich finance portal «Finews». The board president of the CS should go to London for the WimbledonFinal have traveled – but instead of adhering to a ten-day quarantine, Horta-Osório disregarded the British Covid rules.

The alleged quarantine violation came to light during internal reviews by the CS legal department. The investigation is under the supervision of the chief lawyer Romeo Cerutti, as «finews» continues to write.

The British authorities do not want to comment on the case, as the “Blick” writes. However, passengers are generally responsible for complying with all travel regulations. Those who do not adhere to them face a fine or imprisonment.

London trip would be the second violation of the CS President

If the new suspicion is confirmed, the trip to the Wimbledon game would be the second case of a quarantine violation by António Horta-Osório. In November, the Portuguese violated the current quarantine regulations when he flew back to Zurich from London on a private jet – at a time when Switzerland had already put Great Britain on a list of countries from which travelers have to be in quarantine for ten days.

After he drove home to Wollerau, he instructed Felix Gutzwiller, the former CS advisory board and former health politician of the FDP, to inquire about relief or even an exemption from the quarantine obligation. But the request was rejected both at the cantonal and federal level. Nevertheless, Horta-Osório got on a plane three days later and flew to the Iberian Peninsula, then flew on to New York.

Apologies from Horta-Osório and the CS

Days later, Horta-Osório reported himself for a possible violation according to the Epidemic Act Article 83 and commented on the incident: “It is important to me to comply with the Swiss quarantine regulations, and I have this from my arrival in Switzerland on November 28, 2021 to also done carefully on departure. All the meetings that I held in Switzerland were held virtually, as was my public speech that I gave in Zurich last week. ” He had “unintentionally violated the Swiss quarantine regulations” by leaving the country prematurely on December 1. «I sincerely regret this mistake. I apologize and will make sure that this does not happen again, ”he continued.

The CS also commented at the time: “Credit Suisse regrets that the quarantine regulations have been violated in connection with the travel activities of its president. Compliance with applicable laws and guidelines is a top priority for Credit Suisse and for the President himself, ”said the bank.
