Investigator opinion planned

IIn the case of the fatal shots at two police officers in the Palatinate, the investigators want to comment early Tuesday afternoon. A press conference by the police and the public prosecutor’s office is expected to take place at 2:00 p.m., a spokesman said on Tuesday morning in Kaiserslautern.

Meanwhile, the investigation continues at full speed. The search measures had lasted throughout the night, it said. A suspect is also to be brought before the magistrate this Tuesday.

Early Monday morning, a 24-year-old police officer and a 29-year-old chief inspector were shot dead during a traffic check on a district road in the Palatinate near the district town of Kusel. Two Germans were arrested on Monday evening.

First, a 38-year-old – a game dealer from the Saarland district of Neunkirchen – turned himself in to the police after they had publicly searched for him. The suspect reported through his lawyer and was arrested in front of a house in Sulzbach, Saarland.

A 32-year-old suspect was also arrested at the home. The investigation should show what connection he had to the shots, it said. Both men initially did not comment on the matter, the police said. According to Deutsche Welle, a police spokesman described reports as “rumor” that the two police officers found dead game in the vehicle they were checking before the shots were fired.
