Paris, November 22, 2022 – Invibes Advertising, an advanced technology company specializing in digital advertising, publishes the results of an evaluation of its energy performance and announces ambitious sustainable development objectives for the coming years.

In order to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from the advertising sector, Invibes Advertising has launched an internal program to assess and improve its energy performance, particularly related to the impact of its digital advertising campaigns.

A virtuous energy mix

The largest share of the Group’s energy consumption is related to its outsourced servers. They are hosted by two major service providers which account for 99% of its average server load. One of them runs on 100% green electricity and the other on 78% renewable energy.

Additionally, Invibes Advertising runs some of its applications using carbon-neutral cloud services.

Reduced carbon impact of Invibes Advertising campaigns

The company carried out an assessment

of the average carbon footprint of its advertising campaigns in September 2022:

  • The first step was to calculate the carbon footprint of Invibes Advertising’s technology platform for each ad impression, using the energy consumption of the company’s servers, the type of energy used by the service providers hosting these servers, and the number of ad impressions they served in September 2022;

  • Then the company estimated the carbon footprint of an ad impression on the end-user side, based on the number of ad impressions for each type of device used to view its ads in September 2022, on data statistics relating to the energy consumption of the devices used, as well as information relating to the carbon footprint of electricity in the country where the end users are located;

  • Finally, the company made an estimate of the energy consumption and carbon footprint of the network between its servers and the end user, based on data relating to the energy intensity of the internet in kWh/ GO, as well as on the carbon footprint of electricity in the countries where Internet users view its advertisements.

This assessment resulted in an average energy consumption of 0.22 kWh per 1,000 ad impressions in September 2022, corresponding to an average of 26.1 grams of CO2 emissions per 1,000 ad impressions. In comparison, an average Display campaign is estimated to emit 15% more CO2 (30 grams of CO2 per 1,000 ad impressions

This lower carbon footprint observed on Invibes Advertising’s campaigns is the result of a fully integrated technology platform that enables more efficient processes and a reduced carbon footprint of its servers. In addition, Invibes Advertising’s intelligent targeting optimizes the number of impressions during campaigns, and further reduces their carbon impact.

The benefit of technological independence

Invibes Advertising’s proprietary technology platform was designed with process optimization in mind to improve technical performance, reduce associated costs and provide energy efficiency benefits.

In total control of its technological platform, the company devotes a significant part of its R&D investments to its optimization in order to ensure its scalability. This continuous improvement allows us to generate savings in energy consumption.

Ambitious Sustainable Development Goals

In line with its desire to constantly innovate in all aspects of its business, Invibes Advertising has launched several initiatives aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of its campaigns:

  • Actions aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of the processes directly under the control of Invibes, by reducing the energy consumption of its platform and favoring green electricity sources.

  • Actions to reduce the energy consumption of Invibes campaigns outside of its technical domain, at the network and end-user level, knowing that the company does not control the carbon footprint of the electricity used there .

On this basis, Invibes Advertising has set ambitious sustainability goals:

  • Half-yearly monitoring and publication of the carbon footprint of its advertising campaigns;

  • 99% green energy for outsourced servers by the end of 2023;

  • Reduction of 10% per year of energy consumption related to its advertising campaigns over the next 3 years.

Invibes Advertising will thus be able to offer its clients the excellence they seek to meet the increasingly important challenges of decarbonizing their advertising activities.
