Soon, iPhone users compatible with iOS 16 will be able to take advantage of the arrival of widgets on their lock screen. Find out which ones will be available.

Widgets can be very useful for accessing certain information at a glance, all without having to unlock your device. And soon, these will finally join the Apple ecosystem, when iOS 16 is launched by the end of the year.

Widgets at the heart of iOS 16

During the presentation of iOS 16 earlier this week at WWDC, Apple unveiled a complete overhaul of the iPhone lock screen system. The latter will indeed accommodate many personalization elements, such as the possibility of choosing the font of the hour or of modifying the wallpaper several times during the same day, and this, automatically. The screens of the iPhone 14 Pro should also benefit from an Always On display.

But the biggest new feature to come in iOS 16 most likely comes from the appearance of widgets on the lock screen. Years after Android, the Apple brand is finally taking the step of these small interactive application extensions, in order to integrate them directly into the lock screen of its own smartphones.

For the past few days, developers have just had access to a first beta version of iOS 16. The opportunity to find out which widgets will be available on the new version of the mobile operating system.

iOS 16: the widgets are revealed a little more

As the site shows us MacRumors, the widgets will be divided into two categories: those that can be added above the digital clock and those that can be placed just below it. First, here is the list of widgets that can be placed above the time:

  • Calendar (day of the week, date, month/next event)
  • Clock (city time zone/next alarm)
  • Fitness (activity statistics)
  • Reminders (to do today)
  • Stock market (share price)
  • Weather (lunar events, solar events, conditions, location, rain, air quality, UV index, wind)

Here are the widgets that you can place below the digital clock:

  • Batteries (if you connect AirPods, the widget will then show you their battery level instead of your phone’s)
  • Calendar
  • Clock
  • Fitness
  • House (security, climate and lighting)
  • News (news of the day)
  • Reminders
  • Sotck exchange
  • Weather report

For information, the widgets accessible under the clock benefit from a larger space and give you the possibility of placing several of them next to each other. Up to 4 square widgets can be placed side by side, where it is only possible to place two of rectangular shapes (you can also place two square widgets and one rectangular widget if you wish).

Obviously, by the time iOS 16 rolls out next fall, it’s quite likely that more widgets will be added to the iPhone lock screen, and the current widgets will also encounter some changes.
