Apple introduces the new iPhone 11 trio. Outstanding feature of the devices is a huge square camera hump on the back, which houses three lenses in the top models. And there is also a new iPad and a new Apple Watch series.
It was not the big show, but Apple introduced some interesting devices at its fourth event at the Steve Jobs Theater. Of course the highlight was the new iPhones. But there was also a great interest in a new iPad and the latest generation of the Apple Watch.
Start services
At first, Tim Cook and his team started slowly, as usual. The first item on the agenda was the starting signal for the game subscription service “Arcade”. The offer is one of the services that Apple will probably earn more money in the future than with the iPhone. “Arcade” will be available on iOS 13 starting September 19th. The price is pretty hot, only about $ 5 costs a family subscription. The German prices have not yet been mentioned, it may be 5 euros.
Apple is probably even greater hope in its video streaming service Apple TV + , the Netflix, Amazon and Sky to make serious competition. The corporation pumps a lot of money into its own series and shows, some of which he presented at the event. New iPad and fifth watch generation
Also in terms of iPad Tim Cook had something to report in Cupertino: There is a new version of the cheapest model. It has a larger display at 10.2 inches, which also offers a higher resolution. In addition, the new iPad has a faster A10 chip and a smart connector for connecting keyboard covers and other accessories. Allegedly, it is made from 100 percent recycled aluminum. Starting prices for normal users: 380 euros (32 GB), 480 euros (128 GB).
The Apple Watch also gets an upgrade. The fifth generation has a display that is always on when the user wants it. By optimizing the battery life should still be 18 hours as before. Apple’s latest watch now has a compass that is also available to developers for new apps.
The new watch can dial international emergency numbers and, like the iPad, it has a housing made entirely of recycled aluminum. There are also new colors and bracelets. The cheapest version costs 450 euros. The 3 Series will continue with a starting price of 230 euros.
iPhone 11 with dual camera
After about 45 minutes Tim Cook came to the highlight of the event: the new iPhone 11 trio. The two top models are now called iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, the XR successor is now simply the iPhone 11.
All three variants have thick, square camera bumps. The simple model has two cameras there. The 12-megapixel main camera comes an ultra-wide-angle camera, which also dissolves with 12 megapixels. Apple has also improved the image processor and AI features. Thus, the new iPhones are also in the night mode with the current Huawei smartphones and other top Android devices keep up. In photo mode, you just hold the shutter button longer to start a video.
With the videos, 4K recordings with 60 frames per second (fps) are possible with both cameras and you can change the lenses fluently during the shoot. According to Apple, the new iPhones deliver the best smartphone video recordings available. The front camera also shoots 4K movies (30 fps) and you can take slow motion selfies.
Mighty A13 chip
As expected, iPhone 11 is Apple’s new A13 chip, which should ride the competition in every respect in the ground. Especially in the graphics performance of the lead to the current chips of Qualcomm, Samsung or Huawei has grown again. Despite the high performance, the iPhone 11 is supposed to last an hour longer than the iPhone XR. Starting price: 800 euros.
The iPhone 11 Pro has a 5.8-inch screen, the panel of the Pro Max is 6.5 inches thick. The displays are sharper than the screens of their predecessors, shine brighter, are more contrasty and are more energy efficient. Apple calls the panels “Super Retina Display”. The iPhone 11 Pro should last four hours, the Max five hours longer than its predecessor. And: Apple puts the devices an 18-watt power adapter for fast charging at.
Pro models with triple camera
In addition to the main and ultra-wide-angle camera, the Pro models have a 12-megapixel telephoto lens, which is optically stabilized like the standard snap-ons. Even with the pros, users can trigger all cameras simultaneously and the telephoto camera also records 4K videos at 60 fps.
With the neural processor of the A13 a function called “Deep Fusion” is possible. Several photos are shot before the actual shot and combined by the AI with the main picture to an optimal result. For videos, two cameras can be used simultaneously, including the front camera. The cheapest iPhone 11 Pro variants cost 1150 or 1250 euros.
