iPhone 12: corrective update available in October

With a little delay, Apple will finally deploy the update which will authorize its iPhone 12 to return to the shelves.

In recent weeks, Apple has had plenty to keep it busy. Between the overheating problems on the iPhone 15 Pro side, the Wi-Fi which no longer works on iOS 17 and the compatibility problems with CarPlay because of USB-C, the apple has to cut itself into several pieces to take care of its new smartphones.

But for about a month, there has been another one trying to get noticed. Obviously lacking attention, the iPhone 12 has suddenly made the news again. Unfortunately, not for the right reasons…

The DAS of the iPhone 12 soon to meet French standards?

On September 12, as Apple was preparing to unveil its new iPhones, the Apple brand was threatened with being forced to temporarily withdraw its iPhone 12 from the French market. The reason ? A wave emission deemed higher than normal by the National Frequency Agency (ANFR).

Fortunately, the Cupertino company quickly reacted by confirming the imminent arrival of a first update aimed at reducing the SAR emitted by its device. As a reminder, the specific absorption rate of the iPhone 12 initially amounted to 5.74 W/kg (the French limit being set at 4 W/kg).

Last month, the ANFR gave Apple a 15-day deadline to reduce the emission of waves produced by the iPhone 12. If there is nothing to suggest that the SAR measured on the device has health consequences users, the company led by Tim Cook has no choice but to submit to regulation. Almost a month after the start of the events, we finally learned that the famous patch should soon see the light of day.

iPhone 12: the fix should now be coming soon

Yesterday, Tuesday October 10, 2023, the update promised by Apple appeared to developers in a version still at the beta stage. As reported to us by our colleagues from The Vergethe iOS 17.1 update for the iPhone 12 will allow the device to once again be authorized for sale on French territory.

Here is more exactly what we can read in the note shared to developers regarding this new update: “ Updates iPhone 12 for users in France to support a testing protocol for Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) testing. »

As you will have understood, the fix for the iPhone 12 will be deployed with iOS 17.1. It should logically be accessible to all users over the coming days. So remember to regularly check the update settings from your device settings. Finally, we remind you that the publication of this patch will allow Apple’s smartphone to see the SAR drop from 5.74 to 3.94 W/kg.
