On the occasion of the theatrical release of “Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom”, we invite you to find the best film in the franchise according to spectators among the 10 existing feature films!
If you went to see Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom in the cinema and enjoyed it, it may have made you want to dive back into the old films of the famous ape saga.
However, did you know that the franchise had 10 feature films in theaters, including the latest released on May 8? The first and certainly the best known remains the 1968 version by Franklin J. Schaffner with Charlton Heston.
Among all these science fiction works about primates, which is the best? With a score of 4 out of 5 on AlloCiné, is the original film the best rated of the license? Nay! To find the best film in the Planet of the Apes saga, you have to go back to 2011.
With a score of 4.1 out of 5 (average of 47,766 ratings), Les Origines, directed by Rupert Wyatt, wins the Palme! The story takes us to a laboratory where scientists are experimenting with a treatment on monkeys to overcome Alzheimer’s disease. But their trials have unexpected side effects.
They discovered that the substance used radically increased the brain activity of their subjects. Caesar is then the first young chimpanzee to demonstrate remarkable intelligence. But betrayed by the humans around him and in whom he trusted, he will lead the uprising of his entire species against Man in a spectacular fight.
What do the spectators think?
The vast majority of AlloCiné spectators rated Les Origines between 4 and 5 stars. Walter Mouse tells us all the good things he thought about the work:
“No real monkeys are used in the film! Everything is in computer graphics and the rendering is incredible! Rupert Wyatt comes out with honors by being both original in his direction and in his way of filming very effective. The music accompanies the film well and is quite gripping. The storyline is original and the characters are very endearing.

The motion capture of the monkeys is truly impressive in its realism. We come out of the film taken to the heart by the emotions provided. Great cinema.”
For his part, Fyrosand evokes “a total success! The fact of introducing the experiments reinforces the basis and the strength of the film, coupled with a very convincing storyline, all enriched by beautiful music and good performances. In addition, the visual effects by Weta are extremely beautiful and the monkeys are just extraordinary.”
