Apple’s new Pro smartphone is expected to feature a larger 48-megapixel main sensor than the current 12-megapixel sensor used on theiPhone 13 Pro.

If sales of the iPhone 13 are doing well, Apple is obviously preparing the successors to its range of smartphones, for a launch which should logically take place next September.

Apple should finally modify its main sensor in depth

A leaker by the name of Fishing 8 has published on the social network Weibo what could be the technical sheet of the new photo block of the iPhone 14 Pro.

Apple would therefore change its habits this year and replace its usual 12-megapixel wide-angle sensor with a new 48-megapixel sensor with an ƒ/1.3 aperture, compared to ƒ/1.5 today for that of the iPhone 13 Pro Max .

This sensor would also offer smaller pixels at 1.22 µm, compared to 1.9 µm on current models. Apple should logically use pixel-binning technology. The latter brings together the information contained in several pixels to obtain much better results, especially for photos taken at night.

Consequence of this change: the photo block on the back of the iPhone 14 Pro Max should be a little overweight, with a thickness of 4.18 mm against 3.60 mm today.

The disappearance of the notch is confirmed on the Pro models

We also know a little more about the general design of the iPhone 14 Pro Max thanks to new 3D renderings based on CAD files and published by another leaker on Twitter.

The notch should therefore definitely disappear from the Pro models, but not from the classic iPhone 14, which would keep it for an additional generation. The Face ID facial recognition system would thus be placed in a pill-shaped punch, 7.15 mm wide. The front camera would be located to its right and would measure 5.59 mm in diameter.

Finally, the screen would be a little wider. Apple would indeed plan to further reduce the borders around the slab, with dimensions of 1.95 mm against 2.42 mm on the current iPhone 13 Pro Max.
