Apple has always placed great emphasis on the camera on the iPhone. For many buyers, the improvement in optical zoom or the introduction of new photo features is an important reason to switch from the previous model – or to wait for the next generation, the iPhone 17.
The iPhone 16, especially the two top models iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, are unlikely to be a huge success in this respect, but neither will they be a disappointment. Special coating on the lenses
Apple is reportedly working to address the issue known as lens flare. This refers to ghost images and double points of light that occur when taking photos in the dark. You can see an example photo below.

Some photographers approach it creatively and in a playful way – but the effect is usually not intentional. However, it can only be avoided by changing the angle. Apple is said to be experimenting with a protective layer for the lenses that is only a few nanometers thick to prevent this effect.
More resolution
Every hobby photographer has long known that higher resolution does not automatically mean better images. Apple is very defensive here compared to some other manufacturers. Nevertheless, there will be more resolution for the 2024 models.
According to several reports, the sensor of the ultra-wide camera will have a resolution of 48 megapixels instead of 12 megapixels like the iPhone 15 Pro (Max) on the iPhone 16 Pro (Max). A big leap that should ensure better recordings, especially in dark shooting situations.
Sony will probably provide the sensor for the main camera. It is said to deliver improved results in dark shooting situations. This would lead to less noisy recordings.
More zoom
The optical zoom factor is something that many smartphone users pay attention to. Understandable, as it brings distant objects closer. The telescopic camera introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro Max currently creates an optical 5x zoom. With the smaller iPhone 15 Pro it ends at 4x.
It is expected that Apple will primarily bring the zoom capabilities of the iPhone 16 Pro into line with those of the iPhone 16 Pro Max. We expect both Pro variants of the iPhone 16 to feature fivex optical zoom and twenty-fivex digital zoom.
