It’s no secret that Apple is particularly cautious about having its iPhones repaired by unauthorized repairers. If the firm has finally decided to sell spare parts in 2021 to allow you to repair your smartphone yourself, it is careful to always favor its “official” parts, to the detriment of third-party alternatives. To the point of putting obstacles in the way of users who would risk it?
In any case, this is what iFixit suggests, in a blog post published on November 8. In the latter, the company mentions a problem encountered by many users in recent days: their iPhone refuses to update. What do they have in common? They all replaced the battery of their smartphone with an unofficial copy. iFixit does not hesitate to describe the situation as sabotage on the part of Apple.

However, this seems like an unintentional bug. Indeed, when affected users try to install the latest iOS update, their iPhone indicates that it is impossible to “check for update”, due to an Internet connection problem. However, the device is indeed connected, and everything works apart from the update.
It seems that the bug is limited to iPhone 11 and above, located in Europe. iFixit was able to confirm this latest information by sending batteries from across the Atlantic to the Old Continent to recreate the bug. For now, there is only one way to get around the problem and still install the update: you have to go back in time. In fact, you will have to go through iTunes.

- Open iTunes
- Click on Device
- Select Check for updates
iTunes will take care of the rest and you can finally enjoy the latest version of iOS.
