Dwriting? In our Ipsos barometer-Point of May, the executive couple is on the rise again. Admittedly, Emmanuel Macron only gets two small credit points and, with 30% favorable opinions, he remains at his lowest level of popularity since February 2020, before the emergence of the Covid-19 crisis.

Ditto for Elisabeth Borne who, for her first birthday at Matignon, wins four small points and only convinces 27% of those polled. But both calm the most dissatisfied: – 6 very unfavorable points (40%) for the head of state, – 7 points (also 40%) for the head of government. And above all the fall in confidence seems to be halting – Emmanuel Macron had lost ten points since the start of the year, and his Prime Minister, eleven.

READ ALSORoland Cayrol: “Macron must learn co-construction” “We have the first signs of an easing out of the pension crisis, notes Federico Vacas, of Ipsos. But we must be careful: this is still slight and remains to be confirmed. This revival is carried by categories of the population rather favorable to power. Among the most qualified, Emmanuel Macron gains 6 points (36%), and Élisabeth Borne just as much (31%); in higher incomes, the president also takes 6 points (37%) and the Prime Minister downright 9 (34%); the first wins 5% more executives (42%) and the second… 10% more (41%).

Another indication of the easing of public opinion, according to Federico Vacas, nearly two-thirds of personalities (26 out of 39) tested by Ipsos saw their popularity improve. The biggest increases concern moderate personalities when the credit given to the most radical crumbles (a little), like Marine Le Pen who loses four points (35%) while remaining in second place in the ranking of personalities .

Hollande and Bertrand stars of the month

A wave from which François Hollande benefits: the ex-president wins eight points of favorable opinion, jumping from 12e at the 3e place, collecting 34% of favorable opinions and encountering 7% fewer dissatisfied people (59%). The former first secretary of the PS prances among the socialist sympathizers (67%, + 20 points) – but remains behind Martine Aubry, who gains 16 additional points (78%) – and also among the Insoumis and communists, where François Hollande goes from 6e at 2e rank (61%, +27 points).

Another surprise, on the right this one: the return to the forefront of Xavier Bertrand. The unsuccessful former presidential candidate garnered seven additional points (29%), rising from 19e at the 7e position in the general classification. And above all, he takes the leadership on the right, where he jumps from the 5e up to 1D with LR supporters (62%). At home, Nicolas Sarkozy, after his judicial sentence on appeal to three years’ imprisonment, including one year, drops 20 points in favorable opinions (61%) and takes 21 points in addition to negative opinions (39%). . “The date of the survey fell just after the judgment, so the scope must be put into perspective”, specifies Federico Vacas.
