Iran wishes US goodwill to revive 2015 deal

DUBA (Reuters) – U.S. President Joe Biden should lift some sanctions on Iran as a sign of good will to revive the 2015 international nuclear deal, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said on Sunday.

Iran and the United States engaged in indirect talks in Vienna last year in hopes of a 2015 deal

which the United States left in 2018 under the presidency of Donald Trump and which Thran subsequently failed to respect by accelerating its nuclear program.

Discussions are currently at a standstill. Thran and Washington accuse each other of not taking the necessary decisions to settle the last outstanding points.

“If (Joe) Biden wants to lift sanctions and return to the nuclear deal, he should issue an executive order to show his goodwill instead of applying sanctions in Iran,” the minister said.

“On several occasions, we told the Americans that they had to move forward on one or two points before any agreement, such as freeing up some of Iran’s assets held in foreign banks,” added Hossein Amirabdollahian.
