According to the Foreign Ministry, the Iranian police are investigating the death of a Swiss diplomat in Tehran. “The police are currently intensively investigating the circumstances that led to the diplomat’s death,” said Foreign Office spokesman Said Chatibsadeh on Wednesday evening. The Foreign Ministry deeply regrets the “bitter” incident and is in constant contact with the Swiss embassy, ​​said Chatibsadeh.

The diplomat’s body is still in forensic medicine and will be handed over to the embassy after the examinations are over, the spokesman said, according to the state news agency IRNA.

According to informed sources, the 52-year-old worked in the department that represents US diplomatic interests in Iran. After diplomatic relations between Iran and the USA were broken off more than 40 years ago, Switzerland has represented Washington’s interests in Tehran. (SDA)
