Coach Thomas Tuchel had suspected it and he was right: Bayern defender Matthijs de Ligt was seriously injured in the cup embarrassment in Saarbrücken. The 24-year-old will probably be out longer.
Defender Matthijs de Ligt will be missing from FC Bayern Munich for several weeks. As the club announced, the Dutchman suffered a partial tear in his inner ligament during the cup exit in Saarbrücken (1:2). This means that the 24-year-old will not only miss the top game in the Bundesliga on Saturday (6.30 p.m./Sky and in the live ticker at ntv.de) at Borussia Dortmund, but will be out for four to six weeks, according to the “Bild” newspaper. The club only spoke about the “next games”.
De Ligt had already injured the same knee before the international break. “The same capsule again, it’s very painful at the moment. We don’t have a diagnosis yet,” coach Thomas Tuchel, who has had to struggle with personnel problems in defense several times this season, said on ARD in Saarbrücken.
The coach currently only has Minjae Kim available as a fit central defender before the classic at BVB. Dayot Upamecano, who was also recently injured, returned to team training this week. Whether there will be enough for Saturday remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, the “Bild” newspaper speculated that the issue of Jérôme Boateng could flare up again with the renewed defensive concerns. FC Bayern decided a month ago not to sign the clubless 2014 world champion. The reason was the domestic violence proceedings that the 35-year-old is still facing. However, as “Bild” reports, the court hearings are no longer scheduled to begin this season.
