How was your reunion with Bernard Campan, more than twenty years later Remember beautiful things?
Isabelle Carre: We were so happy! It’s crazy that no one thought of bringing us together sooner! I think we have a lot in common. We are loners. Like me, Bernard lives in a house in the countryside, he shows very little, is very discreet and reserved.
What attracted you to Hortense, your character? His cheerful look? Her side of a Catholic old maid who slums?
I find myself a little in it. I have long had this same playful and voluble side. I smiled all the time to hide my shyness. It also touches me because it makes me think of my grandmother, who took care of no less than ten associations! Due to a lack of means, she gave a lot of her time in favor of the underprivileged.
You yourself are very involved in social action…
Very modestly. I try to support associations that deal with child protection, such as Take a Child by the Hand, SOS Children’s Villages… But I lack the time between my jobs as an actress and novelist, and my role of mother (she has three children: Antoine, 13, Madeleine, 9, and Clara, 8, editor’s note).
Hortense plans to have a baby on her own thanks to the assisted reproduction (PMA). Do you understand this choice?
Oh yeah ! Since it took me a long time to have children myself despite all the desire I had! When you have this need to pass on and create a family, it’s something visceral. I understand that perfectly.
