Israel allows partial entry of fuel into Gaza

JERUSALEM, Nov 17 (Reuters) – Israel’s war cabinet has approved the entry of two tanker trucks a day into the Gaza Strip to help meet United Nations (U.N.) fuel needs, an Israeli official said Friday.

This decision would have been taken following a request from Washington according to this official who requested anonymity.

This quantity of fuel will provide “minimal” support to Gaza’s water supply, sewerage and sanitation systems to prevent epidemics, he added.

By authorizing the entry of fuel, Israel is giving itself additional room to maneuver on the international scene to continue its campaign to eliminate Hamas in the Gaza Strip, he said. (Reporting Ari Rabinovitch; French version Kate Entringer)
