Baerbock: An earlier coal phase-out is coming
Annalena Baerbock does not consider the measures decided by the climate conference to be sufficient. The new government will get out of coal earlier than planned, the Green leader announced. Despite the dissent in the current coalition negotiations, she is confident.
The Greens boss Annalena Baerbock describes the exit from the fossil combustion engine as one of the major projects of the next federal government. She said this in response to the results of the UN climate conference in Glasgow. In addition, the coal phase-out must come much earlier if the world as a whole wants to become climate-neutral by the middle of the century, said Baerbock in the ZDF’s “heute journal”. When asked whether the exit from coal with the Greens would come much sooner, she replied: Yes.
Regarding the results of the conference, Baerbock said: “This climate conference has finally recognized the severity of the climate threat, but has not banned it for a long time.” The world has made it clear that one has to get out of coal. “For me, the task in a new federal government is not only to ensure that we get on the 1.5-degree path, but that we advance in an alliance of those industrialized countries that ensure that the technology is available. And that means getting out of fossil fuels earlier and getting the technology for clean industry on the way. “
When asked about dissatisfaction and a scandal in the climate working group during the traffic light negotiations, Baerbock replied: “When 300 people negotiate, and above all negotiate how we can take massive amounts of money in hand to make our industrial location Germany climate-neutral and we at the same time with a view to social justice and digitization also need financial resources, then sometimes things get really tough. “
Baerbock added: “But it is well known that where there is friction, there will be a boost at some point.
