Ivry-sur-Seine: a man sentenced for assaulting an elected official

A man was sentenced Thursday, January 6 by the court of Créteil to three years in prison including 18 months suspended for the assault in October 2021 of the deputy in charge of youth of Ivry-sur-Seine (Val-de- Marne), in a trial in which the court acquitted the second defendant.

On October 8, Ivry’s youth deputy, Boukary Gassama, was violently attacked, with kicks and stabs, by nearly ten individuals at the end of a handball match. . Boukary Gassama had received three stab wounds in the thigh. Two relatives of this elected, including another deputy in charge of the elderly, Ghaïs Bertout-Ourabah, were slightly injured while trying to intervene.

Three years in prison

In the fall, four people were arrested in this case. Two of them had been referred to court. One of these defendants, aged 20, was sentenced Thursday to three years in prison, including 18 months suspended. The court followed to the letter the requisitions of the prosecution against him. The prosecution had not requested a more severe sentence against the defendant, arguing that if his participation in the attack was certain, he was not necessarily the author of the stab wounds.

For the second defendant, aged 26, the public prosecutor had asked for his release. Indeed, during his first hearing, the victim had declared not to recognize the voice of his attackers, before identifying, in a second step, the voice of this second defendant. “We believed that there were political motivations in this file. This is not the case, ”declared Me Serge Money, welcoming the release of his client. During her hearings, the victim herself admitted that her assault was probably linked to a rivalry between rival neighborhoods in Ivry.
