Iziwork wishes to reconcile hyper-growth and respectful management

We feel reassured, things are going in the right direction. I won’t go so far as to salute the action of Balance your start-up, but it made a difference. For Johanna Pretot, manager for eight months at Iziwork, as for many of her colleagues, the start of 2021 marks a managerial renewal.

Launched in September 2018, the French start-up rose through the ranks at lightning speed. It has an ambitious project: to digitize temporary work, through a platform that facilitates the search for assignments for temporary workers. In January, she announced a new fundraising of 35 million euros. Just before being overtaken by the excesses of its management, denounced in January 2021 by anonymous testimonies on the Instagram page Balance your start-up (BTS).

Deep discomfort

Dozens of former employees pointed out the extreme workload in the Parisian offices of Iziwork. For some, the stressful atmosphere and the lack of boundaries between private and professional life were the cause of deep discomfort. Commercial finished at 9 p.m. or 10 p.m., when they went out they would drink some booze to keep, remembers a former developer. Two or three friends lost 20 kilos and suffered a burnout. We saw people crying in the offices.

The non-respect of labor law is also at the heart of criticism: several former evoke in the World persistent contacts outside working hours, unfair dismissals when objectives are not met, or an unusually high number of contractual terminations. All the employees contacted recognize that the overgrowth of Iziwork, combined with the health crisis, did not encourage the taking into account of this malaise. Between January 2019 and the end of 2020, the company grew from 30 to 250 employees, turnover increased tenfold, explains Mehdi Tahri. For such a young company, that poses a number of questions. Since its birth, the company has experienced a high turnover and frequent reorganizations.
