Jack Dorsey: Twitter chief makes billions in the fight against Corona

Twitter founder Jack Dorsey has announced a generous donation in the fight against the corona virus. Like the 43-year-old announced on Tuesday evening at the short message service, he will mobilize a billion US dollars (around 920 million euros) to do his part. According to him, this corresponds to a full 28 percent of his assets.

The sum is said to be shares that Dorsey intends to transfer to Start Small from the mobile payment service Square – also founded by him. This GmbH, which records its grants and expenses in a publicly accessible Google document, was also launched by the 43-year-old.

"The need is becoming more urgent"

Why does Dorsey take action now? The entrepreneur answered this question on Twitter: "The need is becoming more and more urgent." He also wanted to "experience the effects during his lifetime". For the time being, the money donated is to be used to fight the coronavirus pandemic. Subsequently, Dorsey writes, parts of various health and education projects for girls should benefit and promote a universal basic income.
