Jan Hofer will experience his last "Tagesschau" on Monday. He is not afraid of saying goodbye, said the previous chief spokesman.

The current chief spokesman for the "Tagesschau", Jan Hofer (68), will retire on December 14th after 35 years with his last broadcast at 8pm. In an interview with the "Bild" newspaper, he has now revealed the feelings with which he will go into his last day and why he is a fan of reality TV.

His last day doesn't scare him, says Hofer. He looks at him rather happily, because in the Corona year he "really messed up" with shift work, which was very exhausting, explains the news anchor. "My last vacation was last year. I'm just through now. So I'm looking forward to making a cut first." But he couldn't say what would happen if he really went to the studio for the last time. "At the moment, my feeling is as if I am going on a longer vacation on Tuesday," says the news anchor.

Reality TV is his thing

When it comes to his own viewing habits, he is a big fan of reality TV. "That's life! These programs reflect a part of society, that's just what I'm interested in," he explains his passion. "The stars' summer home" describes Hofer as "great". He was really happy that the bodybuilder couple Caro and Andreas from Mallorca won. "These people, I don't know them, are hard-working people who have really worked hard. I think it's great that they can now financially survive the pandemic through a TV show and save their gym." He himself wouldn't take part in any reality show. "You don't know who is still there and what will be made of it in the cut." But he will very likely do "something on TV", Hofer gives his fans hope for his TV comeback soon.
