New TV format: Jan Josef Liefers joins Prof. Dr. Michael Tsokos explain the work of a forensic doctor on the basis of real autopsies.

Forensic medicine, this time in real life: Jan Josef Liefers (56) will participate in a true crime format from TVNow in the new year. In the documentation "Autopsy" he goes with the head of the Berlin forensic medicine, Prof. Dr. Michael Tsokos, at his workplace. According to the press release, it will be the world's first autopsy of real deaths in front of the camera.

The 90-minute documentary shows two deaths from January 4, 2020, how it really works in forensic medicine. To be more precise: "From the computed tomographic examination to the external and internal post-mortem examination to the final treatment of the dead so that they can be handed over to their relatives in dignity and buried." Only the bare essentials should be shown, respectfully and authentically, so that the viewer can understand the complex processes and conclusions of the forensic doctor.

The cameras go out in homicides

However, it is not about homicides. "The moment we discover that it is a homicide or even the slightest suspicion, we must of course stop the shooting. Then this is a case for the homicide squad. That means: cameras off immediately," said the coroner.

For Jan Josef Liefers, who for his role as forensic doctor Prof. Dr. Dr. Karl-Friedrich Boerne is known in Münster's "Tatort", but it is also about the fear of death: "To show: There it is, death – this is how it looks, this is how it feels. And maybe you can at least understand on a scientific level. That takes some of the horror away – at least for me. "
