Jana Ina Zarrella tested positive for Covid-19 and is now in quarantine. She has to be replaced as the "Love Island" presenter.
Jana Ina Zarrella (43) tested positive for the coronavirus. RTLzwei announced this in a message. The presenter was in front of the camera for the broadcaster last weekend on Mallorca for the dome show "Love Island – hot flirts and true love". After her return to Germany, Zarrella tested positive and is in quarantine. "Since I don't have any symptoms and I'm fine, I still can't really grasp it," explains Jana Ina Zarrella. The shooting of the format, which started its fourth season on Monday evening, can continue in Spain.
Cathy Hummels steps in
On the one hand, according to the broadcaster, employees who were in closer contact with the moderator were tested and are in isolation until the results are available. On the other hand, Cathy Hummels (32) will take over the moderation of her colleague. The wife of Mats Hummels (31) is already in front of the camera for the aftertalk of "Love Island". "When I was asked whether I could stand in for Jana Ina, I didn't hesitate for a second. Of course, I will stand in for my dear colleague if she is absent for health reasons," explains Hummels.
Zarrella emphasizes in her statement that she has had herself tested very often recently because of 'Love Island'. "The results were always negative. Immediately after landing in Cologne on Sunday I was tested again. The positive result came on Monday morning." She is grateful to her colleague Cathy Hummels for the quick help: "'Love Island' is very important to me and I am very happy that Cathy is standing in for me."
Strict hygiene and safety standards
According to RTL, two detailed hygiene and safety guidelines that have been agreed with the German and Spanish authorities have been in place since production began. This included, among other things, "regularly repeated corona tests, multiple fever measurements daily, maintaining the safety distance, mask requirement or, if necessary, complete safety equipment (protective suit, glasses, mask, gloves), regular ventilation and the cleaning and disinfection of all rooms and work areas," explains the broadcaster Carlos Zamorano.
All candidates of the dating show, whether already moved in or moving up, have completed a 14-day quarantine on Mallorca after an initial corona test. The scenes of the first broadcast with Jana Ina Zarrella and the candidates all took place outdoors. In addition, a distance of at least two meters was always maintained.
"Love Island – hot flirts and true love" will be broadcast Monday to Friday and Sunday at 10:15 pm on RTLzwei from September 1st.
