McDonald’s, which is facing logistical problems, will have to ration the fries served in its restaurants in Japan.
The American burger giant has seen its entire organization strongly impacted by the pandemic but also by the severe floods in Canada which affected potato production. The rationing of fries was therefore decided for Japan. The latter will begin on December 24, Christmas Eve, and will run until December 30.
The 2,900 brands in the country will only offer their customers small portions of fries to avoid a shortage of the latter. In its announcement press release, McDonald’s Holdings Japan explains that it is subject to “supply delays”.

The port of Vancouver, where supplies leave, was severely impacted by the floods that hit Canada in November. In addition, “the disruption of global supply chains linked to the coronavirus pandemic.”
This rationing measure will allow customers to continue offering French fries, despite “the difficulty of maintaining a stable supply of basic ingredients”. The end of the year holiday season often results in a large crowd in the restaurants of the American chain.
