Jarry: the day the comedian asked his doctor for medicine because he liked boys

As far as he can remember, Jarry has always found himself different… As a child, he loved to dance, read and play with Barbie dolls. On the set of C à vous, Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine launched to her: “Did you really have the feeling of growing up in your family as if you were in ‘Rendezvous in unknown land’?“In all transparency, the comedian confided: “My brothers played football, hunted with my father, fished… I tried all these activities and in less than two minutes, I understood that life had reserved another course for me. I know that very quickly, I did the harvest, and I spent my time making large carpets using the vines to work on my spread. My father, my mother, used to say to the other workers: ‘He’s in training, he’s a distant cousin!’“

On the tray, the host indicated that Jarry thought he had “the disease that makes boys love” and then asked a doctor for medicine. “In fact, it’s very complicated… I come from a small place of six hundred inhabitants, we’ve all known each other since childhood, it was normal to be with girls. I myself was! Except that I didn’t experience things the same way as my friends. They had a lot of fun and I really saw it as an exercise to do to be like everyone else“, he said, before indicating: “The day I started to understand that I liked boys, as I had never heard of them, or very little, I went to see the doctor and said to him: ‘There is something going on.’ And me, even in my head, my life project was to be a dad, to have children and to be like the people around me. So it was complicated!“

Jarry: “When I discovered my homosexuality, I was very angry with myself!”

With emotion, the comedian recalled the reaction of his mother, when he confided to him to be homosexual while the latter watched The Fires of Love. “She said to me: ‘Let me finish my film, anyway, it’s with them (homosexuals, editor’s note) that I get along the best!‘ There, it was a shock for me because I had been hiding it for three or four years, that I felt like I was lying to all the people I loved. She swept the problem away in two and a half seconds!“, he revealed.

Assuring that his homosexuality had angered him, Jarry said: “When I discovered my homosexuality, I was very angry with myself! Because I said to myself: ‘It’s not possible, you can’t have dreamed since you were born of having children and being homosexual.’ I didn’t choose it, I said to myself: ‘It’s not possible! I will have to assume and live with something that I did not choose.’ Already, I was different, already, I was not hunting, I dreamed of dancing and singing and I said to myself: ‘In addition, now you are going to be the first homosexual in your village… The association hunters will chase you…’ I was very angry !“
