Jason Momoa in Fast and Furious: the clash revived between Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel?

Did Jason Momoa’s Casting in Fast and Furious 10 Ruin Dwayne Johnson’s Plans for Hobbs and Shaw 2? We dissect the question.

The latest installment in the Fast and Furious saga, released last July, was a worldwide hit, grossing over $700 million. In France, this 9th part attracted more than 2 million fans.

After this triumph, Vin Diesel reached out to Dwayne Johnson to convince him to return to finish the saga in Fast and Furious 10 (which will be released in two parts). The Jumanji star, who took part in episodes 5, 6, 7 and 8, declined the invitation, preferring to devote himself to the sequel to his spin-off, Hobbs and Shaw.

The two big guys, who got angry after the filming of the 8th part, are therefore not about to meet around a barbecue and a good beer. Therefore, faced with the refusal of Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel and the production turned to another colossus well known to DC fans.

Saturday January 29, we learned that Jason Momoa, alias Aquaman, had just been hired to join the franchise, probably in the role of the new villain. The 42-year-old actor will thus take part in a new popular saga after his roles in Stargate Atlantis, Game of Thrones, Aquaman and Dune.

OIL ON THE FIRE BETWEEN DIESEL AND JOHNSON?

Will this casting announcement thwart Dwayne Johnson’s plans for Hobbs and Shaw? In any case, this risks putting oil on the fire between the actor and Vin Diesel. Indeed, The Rock intended to hire Jason Momoa in the sequel to his spin-off.

On his social networks, the former wrestler had already expressed his desire to work with the Hawaiian actor. He had even offered to embody his brother in the first opus, but Momoa had to decline the offer because of a schedule conflict.

“Jason and I tried everything to get him to play my brother in Hobbs and Shaw, but his schedule was too busy. In the next movie for sure”, had confided Johnson on Instagram. The artist therefore had every intention of offering himself the impressive stature of Jason Momoa for the second opus of the adventures of Hobbs and Shaw.

However, now that the latter has joined Vin Diesel’s family in Fast and Furious 10, Dwayne Johnson will no longer be able to integrate Momoa into his spin-off because of his differences with the interpreter of Dom Toretto. The ex Khal Drogo of Game of Thrones could have camped a new brother for The Rock. He could also have interpreted a solid ally or a sworn enemy of the duo formed by Johnson and Jason Statham.

DIESEL: 1, THE ROCK: 0

Unfortunately, this will no longer be possible. It’s hard to see how Vin Diesel and The Rock could have agreed to have this future character from Fast and Furious 10 also appear in Hobbs and Shaw 2, given the endless feud between the two stars. Dwayne Johnson will therefore have to forget the idea of having Momoa within his spin-off but he will also have to digest the fact of seeing him work with Vin Diesel.

However, nothing prevents the two mirror cabinets from collaborating on an original project. Why not an old-fashioned buddy movie? The two artists have already shown a certain talent for combining action and comedy and their chemistry is enticing on paper.

In the meantime, we will soon see Jason Momoa again in Aquaman 2, in theaters on December 14. As for Dwayne Johnson, he will be the superhero Black Adam, July 27 at the cinema.

Note that the first part of Fast and Furious 10 will land in May 2023. The release date of the second part, which will put an end to the saga, has not yet been revealed. Hobbs and Shaw 2, for its part, is not yet filmed either. You will have to be patient to find out more.
