It’s easier to get up in the morning to the sounds of your favorite station. Radio alarm clocks help and play the desired program instead of a blaring alarm. The devices are mostly simple boxes that are not noticeable on the bedside table. However, the JBL Horizon 2 creates the opposite with its round shape. The test reveals how good the chic radio alarm clock sounds and what useful functions it has.

The round JBL Horizon 2 looks good: There is a reflective display on the front that shows the time, station and current program, among other things. The display behind the mirror is pleasing and is framed by the fabric-covered housing – also chic. Matte plastic decorates the back. All the important buttons are on the top: the switches are embedded in the case and indicated with small symbols. However, they cannot be felt. The large knob in the middle is used, among other things, for volume control and for switching the integrated lamp on and off. Operation is a bit confusing at first, but after a while users will remember where they find the desired function on the device.

The equipment of the Horizon 2 cannot be described as particularly diverse. Nevertheless, everything important is there. In addition to FM and DAB+, music can be played from smartphones or PCs. This works both wirelessly via Bluetooth and wired via a jack socket (3.5 millimeters) on the underside. On the side, the JBL radio has two USB charging ports for charging cell phones. Practical: There is a night light on the back – or rather: the entire rear is one.
Sound test: Warm, but overcast
In the test, the compact clock radio delivered a warm stereo sound. Voices sound a bit busy, but voice contributions and singing are still understandable. The basses clearly lose pressure in the depths and are rather indicated. Still, they do a decent job for their size. The highs, on the other hand, are a bit unclean. The Horizon is not suitable for pure music enjoyment, as a radio alarm clock it is one of the better models in terms of sound.
