(AOF) – The advertising display giant JCDecaux recorded sales growth of more than 14% in the third quarter, above its expectations, but remains affected by travel restrictions in China. Its turnover over the period amounted to 808.4 million euros. The turnover from digital developments (DOOH), has “strongly increased” (+ 25.5%) to reach nearly 30% of total revenue.

Globally, display on street furniture exceeded its 2019 level prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, with revenue of 412.5 million euros (+8.2%). Activities in airports are also up by +10.2% (277.7 million euros) thanks to the “strong rebound” in air traffic worldwide, but they remain affected by mobility restrictions in China.

Revenues from display on billboards increased by 9% (118 million euros), “driven by the growth of Asia-Pacific and in particular Australia”.

While the outlook for the sector is clouded due to the macroeconomic context, JCDecaux is counting on “a solid commercial dynamic” and anticipates growth at constant data “around 3%”.

Growth of online advertising slowed down

After a record year in 2021, advertisers are now more cautious. In the first quarter, online advertising recorded growth limited to 7% for Meta, the lowest level since its IPO in 2012. The ex-Facebook is particularly impacted by Apple’s new system which restricts the ad targeting. Indeed, applications in iPhones must now ask their users if their data can be shared with third parties for advertising purposes. According to an industry expert, the shortfall for Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Snapchat could approach $16 billion in 2022.
