Jeff Bezos has dethroned Elon Musk: The American entrepreneur now has the largest fortune in the world again.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos (60) has reclaimed the title of richest person in the world and relegated Tesla boss Elon Musk (52) to second place. That’s going out the “Bloomberg Billionaires Index” from March 4th. Bezos most recently led the ranking of the super-rich in autumn 2021.
Bernard Arnault is in third place
The Amazon founder’s net worth is therefore $200 billion, while Musk has to make do with “only” $198 billion. According to the index, Tesla’s boss lost around $31 billion last year; on Monday alone, Tesla shares fell by more than seven percent. Bezos, on the other hand, was able to increase his wealth by $23 billion. This meant that the men in the top two places changed order. LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault (75) remains in third place with $197 million. The head of one of the world’s largest corporations, which includes brands such as Louis Vuitton, Dior and Celine, was ahead until May 2023, but was then pushed out by Elon Musk.
The mega-billionaire trio Musk, Arnault and Bezos have been competing for the top spot as the richest person in the world for years. The title changes every few months – depending on market developments. Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg (39) is currently in fourth place with 179 billion, followed by Microsoft founder Bill Gates (68) with 150 billion. Like Oxfam’s annual inequality report documented, but you don’t need to worry either. Because the rich are getting richer: According to this, since 2020, the net worth of the five richest people on earth, taking inflation into account, has increased by 114 percent to a total of 869 billion US dollars.
Will Jeff Bezos soon head back into marriage?
Things are also said to be going well for the new/old frontrunner Jeff Bezos in his private life: he has been with the actress and entrepreneur Lauren Sánchez (54) since 2019, and in May 2023 he asked for her hand in marriage. In November she raved about an interview with Vogue magazine about getting engaged on his luxury yacht Koru: “When he opened the box, I think I fainted a little bit.” Wedding bells could ring this year. “We’re still thinking about the wedding, what it should look like,” she said, emphasizing that the planning was up to her.
What is also certain is that she will take his last name: “I’m looking forward to being Mrs. Bezos,” she told Vogue. However, she is not the first woman to hold this title. The entrepreneur was previously married to MacKenzie Scott (53) from 1993 to 2019, who built Amazon with him. The two have three sons and an adopted daughter.
