Jérémy Ferrari: why he decided to talk about his suicide attempt in his show

Behind the jokes can sometimes hide a much darker side. Revealed in the show We only ask to laugh about it, Jeremy Ferrari was invited this Saturday, October 15 on the set of the new France 2 talk show, What an era!. Came to present his latest show, entitled General anaesthesia, the comedian returned to the dark times he went through. A victim of obsessive-compulsive and ideative disorders, he notably explained how he fell into alcoholism.

The alcohol slowly crept in. I always felt that I had a problem with alcohol, when I didn’t drink for the week, it was because I was holding myself back from drinking. I really wanted to drink all the time.” he confided, before adding: “At the age of 30, I started accepting drinking every night. (…) The anxieties have become more and more important and one day you get up one morning and you are unable to function, you are so overwhelmed with anxiety, you are in so much pain that you are unable to function”.

An addiction to alcohol that ended up dragging him down a very dangerous slope. “I started drinking a little whiskey in my coffee then one thing leading to another, I started drinking all day from morning to night, until I attempted suicide”. An extremely difficult period that he however wanted to tell in his brand new show. “I have no shame, even less since I know what I have”concluded the comedian, stating that it was important “speak of it”.

In an interview with Le Parisien last April, Jérémy Ferrari had already mentioned this day which could have marked the end of his life. “The scene is real, it happened in a hotel in Aix-en-Provence. I was very, very high. If I jumped, it was over”he had revealed, before indicating that it was his best friend who saved him: “I told him, I see the trees as growths of death emerging from the ground. When you say that, it’s not in great shape, you didn’t go to have an evening in front of Dirty Dancing.”

Now totally sober, Jérémy Ferrari celebrated an important date a few months ago. On July 7, he had indeed published a photo on which it was written: “Hi Jeremy. You are sober [depuis ndlr.] 6 years”. Encouraged by this situation, the artist then shared a benevolent message to his subscribers: “Remember it’s possible”. Warm words for those who are proud of the progress made and hope that those who find themselves in the same situation as him will not hesitate to take the plunge.
