Jil Teichmann fails in Dubai in the quarterfinals

Tennis: No further semifinals for Jil Teichmann

(sda) Jil Teichmann (WTA 35) was eliminated at the WTA 500 tournament in Dubai with 2: 6, 7: 5, 4: 6 in the quarterfinals against the Russian Veronika Kudermetowa (WTA 31).

Football: FC Bayern and Salzburg separate 1:1

Soccer: 18-year-old Chinese for the Grasshoppers

(sda) The Grasshoppers signed the young Chinese Jia Boyan and are loaning him to Dubrava from the second highest Croatian league until the end of the season. The 18-year-old attacking player hails from the Shanghai Lucky Star and Shanghai Port youth academies and is a member of China’s youth teams. He is now set to gain his first experience of European football in Croatia.

Hockey: Nashville loses to Washington

The exceptional striker courted by Real Madrid hurt Los Blancos late on Tuesday night and scored the winning goal in the fourth minute of added time to make it 1-0 in the first leg of the round of 16. The multiple world footballer Lionel Messi had previously missed the best chance for the superior French, in the 62nd minute the Argentine failed with a foul on the strong Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Manchester City, on the other hand, can almost certainly plan for the quarter-finals of the premier class. At Sporting Lisbon, the English experienced an extremely relaxed evening and easily prevailed 5-0. Football: YB borrows Edimilson Fernandes, Szalai to Basel

(sda/dpa) The Young Boys are back in action just before the winter transfer window closes. The Swiss champions are loaning Edimilson Fernandes from Mainz until the end of the season. In the Bundesliga, where Fernandes was recently loaned to Arminia Bielefeld, the 25-year-old has only been used sporadically. He has played eight games this season, most recently at the end of November.

The polyvalent midfielder, who has played 22 times for the Swiss national team and can also be used in central defence, should provide relief in the Bernese squad after the departures and injury-related absences of several regular players.
