Rental offers near the Capitol will go under exorbitant prices when the new president is sworn in. Not so this year.

Due to the corona pandemic, the inauguration ceremony for Joe Biden (78) and Kamala Harris (56) as President and Vice President of the USA will be much smaller than usual. As the US gossip site "TMZ" reports, the online company Airbnb is blocking and canceling accommodation offers in the Washington, D.C. area. But now all the more rental offers are supposed to spring up like mushrooms on the Craigslist website. Apparently one hopes that there will be enough supporters and opponents of the new team there, who will all want to be there on January 20 despite Corona.

For example, "TMZ" is listing a one-bedroom apartment one mile from the Capitol. They are listed for $ 250 per night with a minimum booking of three days – a total of $ 750. That may sound expensive at first, but in reality, according to the report, it is a ridiculous price. Another offer, for example, with four bedrooms and three bathrooms, is being offered there for $ 1,650.

The reason for the relatively low prices is probably that, due to the high number of Corona cases in the USA, Biden and Co. have explicitly called for the swearing-in to be attended via TV and not live on site. An appeal that has obviously borne fruit, at least to the annoyance of all landlords.
