US President Joe Biden has to cope with the loss of his German shepherd, Champ. “I’ll miss him,” Biden tweeted after the loss.

After the inauguration of US President Joe Biden (78) in January 2021, it was not only his wife Jill (70) who moved into the White House in Washington. The presidential couple also took their two sheepdogs, Champ and Major, with them. As Biden now announced on Twitter, her dog Champ has unfortunately passed away.

“Our family lost our beloved companion Champ today. I will miss him,” writes Joe Biden on Twitter. The German Shepherd was in the family for 13 years. The 78-year-old wrote a touching statement for a picture of Champ, which among other things said: “Wherever we were, he wanted to be too. And everything was immediately better when he was next to us.”

The four-legged friend was always at Joe Biden’s side – even in bad times. In the last few months the male was already very weak, but always got up with wagging tail as soon as he saw his master and mistress and wanted to be petted, it says on Twitter. In conclusion, the US President wrote: “We love our sweet, good boy and will always miss him.”

Joe Biden’s German Shepherd Major caused some problems

In addition to Champ, the 46th President of the United States also brought the German Shepherd Major into the White House. The couple rescued him from the shelter in 2018. From there the four-legged friend apparently took some problems with him. He is said to have already bitten some employees in the White House. After his attacks, he was taken to Delaware, where the Bidens originally came from. A dog trainer should take care of the dog there intensively. Major is now back in Washington, keeping the Bidens company after their loss.

It is an unwritten tradition that the newly elected US president also takes animal friends with him to the government building. Barack Obama (59) took the Portuguese water dog Bo, who also recently passed away, with him in 2009. Joe Biden’s predecessor Donald Trump (75), on the other hand, did not have a four-legged roommate.
