Joel Edgerton and Sigourney Weaver will soon be in front of the camera together. The Hollywood stars were cast in a new crime thriller.

The new film project by director and screenwriter Paul Schrader (75) has found its leading actor. As “Deadline” now reports, Joel Edgerton (47, “Warrior”, “The Gift”) and Sigourney Weaver (71, “Alien”, “Avatar”) were cast for the thriller “Master Gardener”.

Edgerton is supposed to play a gardener who has to face his dark past in the crime thriller. Meanwhile, Weaver slips into the role of his wealthy employer. Edgerton’s character is said to accept Weaver’s stubborn great-niece as an apprentice.

Women made the story “more complex and unique”

“At the beginning my idea was about male protagonists. But then these two women came into play and it got more complex and unique,” Schrader told US magazine. “Paul Schrader is in great shape,” added the film producer in charge, Gabrielle Stewart.

Schrader’s latest crime thriller, “The Card Counter”, premieres Thursday (September 2nd) at the Venice Film Festival. Oscar Isaac (42), Tiffany Haddish (41), and Willem Dafoe (66) play the leading roles.
