US actor John Stamos has spoken out about being sexually abused as a child.

John Stamos (60) was a victim of sexual abuse as a child. This is what the actor, who became known through the series “Full House,” said explained in an interview with “People” magazine. The conversation was about an excerpt from his upcoming autobiography, “If You Would Have Told Me,” in which he apparently writes about how he was abused by a babysitter.

“It’s always been there”

Stamos said he was 10 or 11 years old when the abuse occurred and he kept the incident to himself at the time. “It shouldn’t have happened that I had to deal with these feelings,” he explained. Although Stamos remembered the incident less as time went on, he continued, “It was always there, but I put it away like people do, right?”

The actor and musician also told People that he “had to write a book” to come to the conclusion that it was a crime. The 60-year-old “Full House” star is the father of a five-year-old son named Billy, whom he shares with his wife Caitlin McHugh (37). “If I found out that someone did something like that to my son, it would be a completely different story,” said the star, who has been a ChildHelp ambassador for over 20 years. The organization helps victims of child abuse.

John Stamos became famous in the 1980s

The actor played the role of Jesse in the sitcom “Full House” from 1987 to 1995. The series made him internationally known. From 2015 to 2019, a sequel, “Fuller House,” was produced on behalf of Netflix, in which Stamos also appeared.

Stamos’ autobiography is now described as a “universal story about friendship, love, loss and the courage to accept love again.” The book will be published on October 24th.
