Malcolm Connolly has been Johnny Depp’s personal bodyguard since 2006. Now the bodyguard has testified in the defamation trial between Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard.
More and more witnesses are being invited to the trial between Johnny Depp, 58, and Amber Heard, 36. On Thursday, April 28, 2022, Depp’s bodyguard, Malcolm Connolly, shared his take on a celebrity marriage that ended in disaster. In court, Connolly portrayed a love-seeking actor who seemed to have found an ideal companion in Amber Heard – until he suddenly noticed changes at his employer.
Johnny Depp’s bodyguard discovered injuries on the actor’s face
At first it was a loving relationship, says Connolly. He described Amber Heard as “lovely and charming.” Depp’s employee was happy to see the actor “happy again.” Connolly, who has worked for Depp since 2006, did not appear in court to testify, but was connected from his home country of England.
After the bodyguard described an initially harmonious marriage, the situation between the celebrities suddenly changed in his eyes. Amber Heard in particular has become more and more “dominant”. “Amber started to change. Amber started to get a little bit more argumentative and demanding. I could see that Amber wanted the pants on in that relationship. It was pretty obvious,” the bodyguard quoted the Daily Mail as saying.
Connolly emphasizes that he never saw the fisticuffs between Johnny Depp and the 36-year-old with his own eyes. However, at some point he noticed “scratches and injuries” on his boss’s face and neck. “There were scratches on his neck. Maybe a fat lip in the corner, a bruise in the eye socket. […] It became more and more regular. Not every week, but it definitely happened,” Connolly said. He never saw such wounds on Amber.

Disputes between the stars have only increased as the marriage has progressed. The bodyguard remembers that at some point there would have been fewer days when there weren’t any arguments between the spouses. “I could hear Amber screaming. I could hear Amber screaming and bawling,” Connolly said. It was “mostly” the actress who he heard upset.
The trial between Heard and Depp has been running since April 12, 2022. In the past few days of the trial, the then investigating LAPD officer Melissa Saenz has refuted that Heard was a victim of domestic violence. In addition, forensic psychologist Dr. Shannon Curry diagnosed “borderline and histrionic personality disorder” in the actress.
