Jura Auction of the treasure of Morez: €772,955 raised by the municipality


A total of €772,955 for the town hall

At the end of the auction on Saturday March 19, the municipality of Morez raised a total of 772,955 euros. This is more than what was expected (around 600,000 euros). A sum that should be used to renovate the former Hôtel de la Poste.

2:45 p.m. : First ingot auctioned €54,020

The first ingot starts at 54,020 euros; the second at 55,260 euros. The third ingot starts at 54,150 euros.
A bid was issued at 53,800 on the 4th ingot in the room, but this went to €53,900 after a remote auction.
The 5th and last ingot starts at €53,950.
The sale will continue thereafter lots of gold coins, still approximately by 10 units, around 3,000 euros.

2:25 p.m.

After 60 rather monotonous sales of lots of 10 pieces, in a few minutes the 5 ingots of 1kg will be put up for sale. Each estimated at around 50,000 euros.

This Saturday, at 2 p.m. sharp, the auction of gold coins and bars discovered by the elected officials of Morez began.
In the hall of honor of the town hall of Morez, about forty buyers, the vast majority of the inhabitants of the town and the sector. Note that the sale is also available online.

150 lots put up for sale

The treasure, made up of coins and some ingots, was divided into more than 150 lots. Sales follow one another, with few bids, buyers being aware that gold has a price and that it would not be wise to bet much more than the estimated value.
As expected, the first batches of 10 20-franc coins go for €3,300 on average.
Mayor Laurent Petit is present in the room to follow this sale which will allow his municipality to renovate the former Hôtel de la Poste.
