Kanye West: Rapper wants to start the race for the White House

How serious is he this time? Rapper and fashion designer Kanye West has once again announced his presidential candidacy.

US rapper Kanye West (43, "Yeezus") has announced its presidential nomination on Twitter. "We must now see America's promise by trusting God, uniting our vision and building our future. I am running for President of the United States," he said in his statement that he shared on Independence Day. To do this, he set the hashtag "# 2020VISION".

His wife, reality TV star Kim Kardashian West (39), retweeted his statement along with an emoji of a U.S. flag. And Tesla boss Elon Musk (49) already said: "You have my full support!"

It's not Kanye West's first announcement

Kanye West's plans are not new: at the end of 2019, the father of four announced that he wanted to go to the presidential race in 2024. In 2015, he said at the MTV Video Music Awards that he wanted to run in 2020. Before he declared again that he wanted to become US President, he publicly supported incumbent Donald Trump (74).

West and Trump met at the White House in October 2018 to reportedly talk about tax cuts, prison reform, mental health, and racism. Months earlier, West called the president "my brother" and wrote on Twitter, among other things, "You don't have to agree to Trump, but the mob can't make me not love him." West later distanced himself from Trump and politics in general and tweeted that he wanted to focus on being "creative." Since then, he has again focused on music and fashion.

West is said to have just signed a ten-year contract with Gap, according to Forbes. He has also released new songs, including "Wash Us in the Blood", the first single from his upcoming album "God's Country". Should his announcement of a presidential candidacy be taken seriously? That will only become apparent in the coming weeks and months, says "Forbes".
