Katy Perry: She had to be "broken" to be "grateful"

Music, separation, confirmation: In a radio interview, Katy Perry talks about why she was "broken" – and how it helped her.

A few weeks ago Katy Perry (35) released her new song "Daisies", a new album will follow in August. At the same time, the singer is engaged to the actor Orlando Bloom (43) and she expects her first child with him very soon. So she seems to be doing well today, but it was not always as she revealed in conversation with the Canadian broadcaster and presenter of "q on cbc", Tom Power (33).

"I lost my smile," Perry said in the radio interview. A few years ago, she gave much to a certain "affirmation, love and admiration" of the world. Her career went up steeply, but there had been a "change" – barely noticeable for people, but "shattering" for them. Her music and the associated confirmation no longer influenced her as positively as before. In addition, she was separated from Bloom for a while.

Today she is grateful

"I just crashed," explains Perry, who also describes the situation as a "good crash." It was important for her to be "broken". The singer speaks of a "necessary brokenness". She used to live with a certain "ignorance is a blessing" mentality, which fortunately has changed. You would rather feel all these emotions than be lost in this ignorance. Perry is grateful today.

"Gratitude may have saved my life," says the singer. Otherwise she would have simply wallowed in her "own sadness" and possibly even committed suicide. Immediately after waking up, even before looking at her smartphone, she now says every day: "Thank God, for this day, I am thankful in every way".
