Kevin Costner will premiere the first part of his two-part western epic “Horizon: An American Saga” at the Cannes Film Festival.
Kevin Costner (69) will be at the 77th Cannes International Film Festival. The US actor will present the first part of “Horizon: An American Saga” as a world premiere outside of the competition. “I would like to thank the Festival de Cannes for including my film in this year’s selection,” Costner said quoted on the film festival website. “It’s been 20 years since I had the pleasure of being on the Croisette. I’ve been waiting for the right time to return and I’m proud to say that time has now come.”
Back to his roots
Horizon: An American Saga is a story that began 35 years ago and I can’t think of a better place than Cannes to show the world the result of such a wonderful adventure. The French have always supported and firmly believed in films in filmmaking. Just as I firmly believe in my film.” With the project, Costner, who is said to have first conceived “Horizon” in 1988, revisits the setting of “Dances with Wolves,” his 1990 directorial debut. The ambitious western epic chronicles the settlement of the American West over a period of 15 years. “Horizon: An American Saga” is his first directorial work after “Open Range” from 2003. He also co-wrote the script and stars in the film.
A Trailer for the first part already provides insights into the film’s events. The film will be shown in Cannes on Sunday, May 19th. The first two episodes of the multi-part project are announced for June 28 and August 16, 2024. The film project takes on particular emotional significance due to the fact that Costner’s son Hayes (15) appears in the epic will be seen on the big screen. The cast also includes Sienna Miller (42), Sam Worthington (47) and Luke Wilson (52).
The action film “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” will also premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. The prequel to “Mad Max: Fury Road” will be shown there on May 15th and will be in German cinemas on May 23rd. The Cannes International Film Festival is scheduled to take place from May 14 to 25, 2024.
