King Frederik, 55, was proclaimed the new regent on January 14, 2024. He will soon embark on his first trip abroad as monarch and visit Poland. Initially it was said that Queen Mary, 51, would accompany him, but that has since changed. “Energy efficiency, climate-friendly agriculture and biogas will be the focus when His Majesty the King leads a Danish business delegation to Poland from January 31 to February 2, 2024,” the palace recently announced via Instagram. But the royal couple will also travel together – to Sweden.

The Danish court has confirmed to “Svensk Damtidning” that Frederik and Mary will travel to Sweden and Norway. However, they will start with Sweden. However, it is not yet clear when exactly the Danish monarch and his wife will visit King Carl Gustaf, 77, and Princess Victoria, 46, who is close to him. Planning a state visit – and fitting it into the already busy royal schedule – takes a lot of time.

The royal couple sticks to old tradition

There is a royal tradition behind the decision to take this trip: According to the Swedish newspaper, the Scandinavian royal families always prioritize each other after a change of throne – of course, the close family ties of the Swedish and Danish royal families would also play a role.
