Were King Frederik and his family in Copenhagen at Easter or not? While the court shrouds itself in silence, one small detail seems to speak volumes.

According to Danish media reports, King Frederik, 55, had a rather bumpy start to his time as monarch. The change of throne came after rumors of an affair between him and actress Genoveva Casanova, 47, emerged. In the first weeks of his reign, Frederik was mainly criticized for not showing himself often to his people. The fact that a long-standing tradition such as the torchlight procession was canceled, that the royal family did not comment on various scandals and that Frederik and Queen Mary, 52, took two vacations within a few months are various straws that could soon be the straw that overflows the proverbial camel’s back.

As far as the presence of its monarch is concerned, the palace is now once again keeping quiet: Danish media have been speculating for days as to whether the royal family spent Easter 2024 in Copenhagen or whether they stayed away again. While the royal calendar is empty from March 23rd to April 6th, another detail could speak for Frederik’s presence in the Danish capital.

King Frederik, Mary and Christian give their people riddles

The Danish newspaper “BT” observed last Saturday, March 30, that the royal flag was flying over Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen – a sure sign that at least one member of the royal family is at home and in the capital. It is also said that the flag was placed above the royal couple’s villa. It is not known which member of the family was present in Copenhagen. The king’s flag is usually hoisted for Frederik, and that of the royal family for Mary. Christian’s presence is marked with the flag of the heir to the throne. Which of the three options could be seen on March 30th? The “BT” could not clearly recognize this.

The palace has so far left a request from “BT” unanswered. “Billed Bladet” reports that the royal family around Frederik and Mary are currently outside the country on Easter vacation.

Proven: Queen Margrethe was not in Copenhagen

While her son and his family are on Easter vacation, she jumps Queen Margrethe, 83, reinstated as head of state and continues the business. As “BT” reports, the former monarch is currently not in Copenhagen, but in Aarhus. The national flag was raised at Marselisborg Castle to mark Margrethe’s presence.
