Kojima’s canceled project is being talked about again, fans are panicking

In the past, Hideo Kojima worked on a Silent Hill project which was ultimately canceled. And yet, clues about him were scattered during the presentation of his new game.

We know that Hideo Kojima has a lot of games on the go. The best known of these is undoubtedly Death Stranding 2, but it is not the only one. He also has an Xbox Cloud Gaming exclusive called OD in the works. He revealed it in broad daylight during the Game Awards 2023, but no gameplay extract has been revealed. We were only treated to a technical demonstration with MetaHuman characters. However, everything suggests that a clue about the creator’s former Silent Hill project was slipped into the presentation video.

A strange reference to the canceled Silent Hill project in the OD trailer

To put you in context, a few years ago, Hideo Kojima had to put together Silent Hills. A demo called PT had been deployed, and we can say that it had had a small effect on the players. Headlining and to everyone’s surprise, Norman Reedus. In short, it was promising, but unfortunately, the project was aborted in 2015, and we didn’t really hear anything about it again. However, some fans were surprised to see references to him in the Overdose (or OD) trailer.

During the Game Awards 2023 ceremony, Kojima introduced us to OD, the famous project resulting from a collaboration with Xbox Game Studios. First of all, when our man came on stage, he opened the door that can be seen in PT Silent Hills. Then, in the video dedicated to her new game, a very similar door can be observed in the reflection of the eyes of actress Sophia Lillis. But that’s not all. A secret message was also discovered by several users.

When actor Udo Kier appears, letters quickly appear inside his mouth before disappearing. You have to be extremely attentive to see them, but here are all the ones that can be seen: A, T, A, M and I. Atami is the name of a city in Japan in Shizuoka Prefecture. If we write it in Japanese (静岡), and separate the two words that form it, we literally get “Quiet” or “Silent” and “Hill”. It’s hard not to make the link with Silent Hill and therefore Kojima’s abandoned project. It remains to be seen what this means for OD.

A promising new game

Coming back to OD, even if we haven’t seen anything of the horror game yet, the description given by Kojima is mouth-watering. Obviously, he wants to push the limits of fear. “OD will explore the limits of fear and what it means to overdose on fear, while blurring the boundaries and the film”. If it serves us something in the same style as PT Silent Hills, there is reason to be scared. That said, you will have to be patient, because we do not yet have a release date to communicate.

The other surprise regarding OD is the partnership with a well-known director: Jordan Peele. As a reminder, he is the director of Get Out, Us and Nope, horror films which were very successful. He declared that this video game project will be “terrifying”. From what we understand, we must also count on the presence of other big names. For the moment, their identity remains a mystery in its own right. To be continued.
