Krafton (PUBG) rushes straight into the metaverse and NFTs


Not worried by the disappointments of Ubisoft, Team17 or even GSC Game World, Krafton seems determined to bet big on these technologies and has already surrounded itself with specialized partners. This begins with the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Naver Z to build a metaverse NFT platform. A metaverse bigwig in Asia, Naver Z is responsible for Zepeto, a virtual world that claims more than 290 million users worldwide, who can interact with each other with their own 3D avatars.

Krafton will therefore be able to rely on its own online gaming experience and that of its partner to build “a high quality virtual world using Unreal Engine” which will be accompanied by a user-generated content creation tool. History does not yet tell how this “future guided by NFTs” could eventually play a role in Krafton’s games, including the popular PUBG. One thing is certain, Krafton is already above the rejection shown by many gamers and industry professionals about NFTs: this week, the group also made equity investments in companies Seoul Auction Blue ($2.5 million) and XBYBLUE ($4.1 million) to develop projects focused on non-fungible tokens.
