A bidder spent the equivalent of 11,000 euros at an auction to get six strands of Kurt Cobain’s hair.

Six strands of hair from Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain (1967-1994) were auctioned for $ 14,145, like can be seen on the website of the auction house Iconic Auctions. The minimum bid was $ 2,500.

The auctioned strands – the longest is said to measure a little over six centimeters – are said to come from a haircut Cobain got in 1989 when Nirvana were on the “Bleach” tour. There was also a picture of the strands of hair showing Tessa Osbourne, a friend of the musician, posing with Cobain. She had cut his hair back then in Birmingham, England, and was keeping the strands. After the singer’s death, she gave it to Nicole DePolo, an artist from Seattle. DePolo then passed the hair on to John Reznikoff, who set a “Guinness” world record for the largest hair collection.
