La Ch’tite Famille: what record did the film break when it was released in cinemas?

Released in cinemas in 2018, the film The Ch’tite Familyrealized by Dany Boonwill be broadcast Sunday, September 4, 2022, from 9:05 p.m. on TF1. This is the 6th film directed by Dany Boon. However, even if its title can lead to confusion, The Ch’tite Family is not a sequel to Welcome to the Ch’tis, released in theaters 10 years earlier. However, the two films are still linked, since it was shortly after the immense success of this comedy, in which Dany Boon shares the bill with Kad Meradthat the actor had the idea for the future screenplay of The Ch’tite Family. Indeed, it was in the early 2010s that Dany Boon had said to Line Renaud that they were going to work together again in the same region on this film.

To write it, the actor asked himself the following question: “What if, when I arrived in Paris, I had listened to the bad advice of certain producers, who recommended that I forget where I came from and erase my accent? A bit as if we had told Raimu or Fernandel to put aside their southern roots!” explained Dany Boon during the promotion of the film. “Starting from there and having a training as a designer in graphic arts, I imagined the misadventures of a designer (my character of Valentin) who would be ashamed of his background and would invent another destiny, until the day his lies would eventually catch up with him… And then in 2016, we added another element: the fact that another lie is grafted onto this base, that of the brother who needs money to save his organic farm, and goes to Paris to find Valentin claiming to organize a surprise birthday for their mother…” added the filmmaker.

La Ch’tite Famille: never seen since Welcome to the Ch’tis

For the record, The Ch’tite Family had achieved a record the same day of its theatrical release. Previews included, more than 450,000 admissions were recorded during the first 24 hours of operation of the feature film in cinemas. A record unequaled since Welcome to the Ch’tis in 2008 (558,000 admissions). At the time, The Ch’tite Family had afforded the luxury of doing better than the 3rd opus of the Tuches, which peaked at 401,000 admissions on its first day of operation.
