Lancia makes its big return to France with the new Ypsilon, its first electric car

After six absences from French soil, Lancia finally announces its return with an obviously electric model: the new Ypsilon. The manufacturer has only revealed a few photos for the moment, with the official presentation taking place on February 14. The opportunity to discover a rather familiar design.

Lancia Ypsilon

6 years since we last saw him at our house. All this time, Lancia had focused on the Italian market, its home country. But through its parent company Stellantis, the manufacturer had kept a foothold in France, and in the rest of Europe for that matter. Time that it has also used to prepare the rest of its strategy, which will, without much surprise, turn towards electric, like all of its competitors.

Today, Lancia revealed its next car, which will mark its return to France, but also to six other European countries outside Italy. To mark the occasion, the manufacturer has reimagined a model more than 10 years old, the Ypsilon. The latter had already teased its arrival in September 2023, before offering us the first images at the beginning of February. The official presentation, for its part, will take place on February 14.

A bit of Peugeot e-208 in the new Lancia Ypsilon

The first thing that catches the eye is therefore the relatively similar design of the new model with the Lancia Ypsion from 2011. A few changes should however be noted. The logo on the grille has been replaced by the name of the manufacturer, while the rear handles are discreet thanks to their positioning in the quarter panel.

The interior offers very few surprises, except perhaps this mysterious circular element on the dashboard. The car also seems to integrate everything necessary in terms of infotainment for modern vehicles. Moreover, the car uses the e-CMP technical platform from Stellantis, which is found in particular on the Peugeot e-208. Lancia has already specified that the battery will offer a WLTP mixed cycle range of 403 km. We do not have any further technical details at this time. 1906 units will be available for sale from the second half of 2024.
