Laurent Nuñez should be appointed, except last minute surprise, Wednesday in the Council of Ministers prefect of police of Paris where he will succeed Didier Lallement, we learned Tuesday from sources close to government circles confirming press information. This strategic appointment, on the proposal of Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, is one of those decided by the Head of State.
The current national coordinator for intelligence and the fight against terrorism (CNRLT) and ex-Secretary of State to Christophe Castaner, then Minister of the Interior, will succeed Didier Lallement, whose management of public order and methods in general have been regularly criticized since his arrival at the PP in March 2019, in the midst of the “yellow vests” crisis. Mr Lallement’s departure is unrelated to the Stade de France fiasco in the Champions League final. The prefect had indeed announced to his troops several weeks earlier that he would leave the PP this summer, no later than August 27, the date of his 66th birthday.
A career inside
Enarque, having spent most of his career in the Interior, Laurent Nuñez is a specialist in security issues and the fight against terrorism. Aged 58, he knows the prefecture of Paris perfectly, having been chief of staff to the prefect of police Bernard Boucault between 2012 and 2015. He was also prefect of police for the Bouches-du-Rhône from 2015 to 2017. To be appointed in 2018 Secretary of State to Christophe Castaner, he was boss of the General Directorate of Internal Security for a little over a year. After leaving Place Beauvau in July 2018, he joined the Elysée to coordinate the “task force” against terrorism.
