Laurent Ruquier leaves BFMTV, his ex-colleague comes out of silence: “He was asking himself questions…”

On December 26, Laurent Ruquier announced on his Instagram account that he abandoned, of his own free will, the show he presented on BFMTV from 8 p.m. for only three months. A shock announcement which seemed to cause some stir within the editorial staff of the 24-hour news channel. The co-host of the emblematic figure of Big heads, Julie Hammett, gave an interview to Télé-Leisure, this Tuesday, January 2.

The young 34-year-old presenter spoke about her new show, called Julie until midnight, which she hosts from 10 p.m. today, but also its old experience on set of 8 p.m. from Ruquier. Asked about the sudden departure of her former sidekick from the BFMTV channel, she revealed that she had “discovered at the same time as everyone else, during the holidays” the information. “I knew he was wondering, but I thought he would make it until June,” she affirmed, thus alluding to the commitment that the former host of France 2 seemed to have with Marc-Olivier Fogiel and which consisted of “renew until the end of the season” his contract, before he ended it prematurely. To our colleagues, Julie Hammett explained to her that she “right away […] sent a little message” caring “to tell him that it was a pleasure to work with him during this first trimester.”

The young TV presenter also confided to Laurent Ruquier that she “hoped[t] that the decision had not been too difficult to make. Looking back, she has no regrets about this experience spent at her side, as she affirmed with a certain tenderness: “I was very happy to work with him for a quarter, he’s really a very nice man who doesn’t take himself seriously, which was very nice.” Returning to what motivated the former France 2 presenter to abandon BFMTV, she declared: “He said to himself that it didn’t work as well that he hoped for, he drew the conclusions and I admire his journey and of his way of taking on new challenges even after thirty years of career. It’s a box with a lot of competition so it’s complicated. We would have liked the audiences to be better but we did our job until the end.” Before adding: “Observing Laurent Ruquier was a real enrichment. It was a very enriching first quarter for me.”
